About the Event
“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” — Frederick Douglass
Young people are often more open to learning. They listen, question what does not sit right with them, and adapt when change is needed. Their strength lies in their willingness to absorb lessons, unlearn harmful beliefs, and admit that they do not know everything.
During our conversation with Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr., he shared his hopes for the Filipino youth. He discussed government initiatives such as scholarships, stipends, and development programs. At the same time, he acknowledged that serving millions makes it difficult for national programs to reach every barrio and barangay. Despite this challenge, he emphasized that young Filipinos have the power to transform the nation as its next leaders.
His message strengthened the mission of Sulong Kabataan:
To reach young Filipinos who aspire not only to become SK chairpersons, but to serve as genuine leaders in their communities.
We aim to work with different sectors and bridge the gap between national institutions and local communities. Through these connections, aspiring leaders can receive the knowledge, guidance, and opportunities they need.
We cannot ignore that our government has seen officials who treat public office as a source of power rather than a responsibility to serve. This is why investing in the youth matters. By teaching integrity, compassion, responsibility, and critical thinking early, we can prevent the mistakes of the past from becoming the habits of the next generation.
Strong children do not simply appear. They are shaped by the values we teach, the examples we set, and the opportunities we give them.
If we want better leaders and a better nation, we must begin by building young people who know how to think, listen, serve, and stand for what is right.
